Best Suspension Upgrades

September 25, 2020

Today we are going over our recommendations for upgrading your suspension.

Strut Spacer Kit to Coilover Kit

shop

Swapping your spacer kit to a coilover kit is our first suspension upgrade option. If you are running a strut spacer kit right now you might be wondering why it would be worth it to switch to a coilover kit or why that would be better. When you have a strut spacer, you get a big metal spacer that goes on your factory strut and that is how the lift is achieved. When you upgrade to a coilover lift you replace the factory strut. The new one will have a coilover spring over it. This is better because you will have a smoother ride and you will be able to adjust your rides dampening. This will stiffen or soften your ride. You can stiffen it up for offroading or you can soften it up for daily driving. When you order one from us it will come ready to be bolted up in the height that you want. So when you get it in the mail all you need to do is just bolt up to your truck.

Replacement Shocks

Replacement shocks are an option with every lift kit you purchase from Custom Offsets. So when you go to purchase for example a Rough Country lift kit from the site and it comes with standard shocks, you will have the option to upgrade to Rough Country V2, gas-charged shocks. What is the benefit of upgrading? Why pay more when it comes with shocks already? The shock that it comes with will be a steel shock, the upgraded one will be an Aluminum shock. Aluminum is better, not only because it is way lighter, but also because it will not rust as opposed to steel that will. Aluminum also dissipates heat way better than steel, allowing your shock to perform the way that it should.

Traction Bars

shop

The next upgrade we have for you is a traction bar. What are traction bars? a traction bar is a bar that connects on the underside of the truck from somewhere in the middle of the truck, all the way to the rear axel. But why do you need it? Some get it to improve the look of the truck, and others get it because when you accelerate in a lifted truck, you get a twist in the differential and driveshaft which starts to really put wear and tear on that joint. The traction bar will eliminate that, so they run from the frame to the axle but still allow the up and down movement that that suspension needs to work.  Our favorite is the BDS Recoil traction bars.

Steering Stabilizers

shop

This is geared more towards the bigger heavy-duty trucks or older model half tons. They are only useable on straight axle trucks or torsion bar suspension trucks. They essentially take their feedback from the larger wheel and tire and absorb it and soften it, so that your arms don't take it all in on the steering wheel when you're going down the road. Some kits will have a steering stabilizer as an upgradeable option. Otherside you can do this upgrade at any time.

Upper Control Arms

shop

If you get a lift, some of your trucks stock components may need an upgrade. This brings us to our final upgrade, being the upper control arms. These will replace your factory upper control arms. But why would you need this? This will help with performance, and longevity when it comes to angles. They will also support the installation of those big lifts, wheels, and tires and make it last longer.
