Can I Fit Bigger Tires With a Leveling Kit?
January 19, 2021
Customizing your truck or SUV is not an easy task. You want to look cool, get a leveling kit and some big tires to achieve your perfect look. But will this work? Today we are diving into a hot topic, can you actually fit bigger tires with a leveling kit?
Table of Contents
If you have ever noticed that the front of your truck is lower than the back of it, this is called “rake”. It was purposeful from the factory. It is meant to protect your truck and its original suspension pieces. This is assuming that you use your truck to tow or haul heavy items that could make the back of your truck sag or bottom out.
A leveling kit will do as it says and level this rake out. It raises up the front of the truck to make it even with the back. So rather than a lift kit that will lift the whole truck up, a leveling kit only raises the front of the truck up. Read more about the difference between a lift and a leveling kit here.
The next step in fitting a larger tire now that you know what a leveling kit is to get to know your tires. Knowing how to read your tire size and knowing what that means will make this process much easier as you look for a larger size. Check out this blog linked here, where we go through how to read a tire sidewall and what it all means.
Now you know what a leveling kit is and how to read your tires. You’re an expert now, but the question still remains if you can fit a bigger tire. Your stock wheels are obviously made to fit with your stock suspension.
Bigger tires could already fit in the back, but now with your leveling kit, you can get bigger tires in the front too. So, yes you can fit bigger tires than stock.
A good rule of thumb is that if you have a two-inch leveling kit, you can get a tire that is two inches larger and so on. This way you know that it will fit for sure.
A lot of times, stock tire sizes are very conservative and you can go bigger than that two inches. But you have to be careful with this and do your research to make sure it will fit. See more photos here.
Well, you can go onto Google and research all your questions. But, we make it really easy here at Custom Offsets with our gallery. The founder of Custom Offsets, Shawn Chartier, started the gallery simply because he was sick and tired of searching through forums for his fitment questions.
All you will have to do is head over to our gallery, input your year, make, model, and trim of your vehicle and then filter for leveling kits. Then you can see what size tires other people have fit and are running with all their specs.

Increase the height of the truck

The speedometer and odometer will read wrong

If you fit your tires perfectly the first time then awesome! This section is not for you. If you got a little too overzealous and went just a tad bit too big with your tires, then you may be experiencing some rubbing among other dangerous feelings and sounds that can be harmful to you and your truck.
To remedy this, well you have a few options. The first being to leave it and see what happens, we don’t recommend this. You could get smaller tires, but that would be sad.
Or you could go ahead and pick up some spacers to poke out your tires and away from what it may be rubbing on in there. Check out our selection of high-quality and safe spacers here. Read up about spacers in this blog found here, to learn more.
The next option that you have is to do some trimming. Head to your local auto body shop and ask them to trim away the parts of the body that you are rubbing on. Finally, the last option you have is to get a lift kit to clear that space. See more photos here.
