Electric Vs. Gas Vs. Diesel
April 8, 2021
With so much hype surrounding electric vehicles, there are tons of questions about which kind of vehicle is the best. Electric, gas, or diesel?
Table of Contents
Gas: Average horsepower of a gasoline-powered truck is between 275 and 400 hp.
This obviously depends on the truck and the engine. An average light gas truck has about 500 ft. lb. torque.
Diesel: For diesel trucks, the average horsepower is about 400 hp meanwhile to average torque is 900 ft. lb. torque.
Electric: Finally electric, these are still projected numbers but electric trucks seem to be somewhere around 750 hp and 829 ft. lb. torque.
Winner: For this one, we are most inclined to make diesel the winner.
Gas: Gas trucks average around 13,000-15,000 lbs towing capacity.
Diesel: Diesel trucks are obviously known and recognized for their towing capabilities. A diesel pickup truck usually has about an 18,000 lb max tow rating.
Electric: An electric truck doesn’t quite seem to match up to these vehicles in this department. Towing really affects the range of these vehicles as well. An electric truck seems to sit around 12,000 lbs towing capacity.
Winner: Diesel, again
Gas: Known for being the worst for mileage. A gas truck is certainly not the best for mileage.
Diesel: A diesel truck will increase your mileage by 20-35% from gas.
Electric: For one full charge on an electric truck it will get you about 250-300 miles in range.
Winner: I mean for this it would be hard not to pick electric.

Gas: Being so common, gasoline vehicles are going to be the cheapest vehicle.
Diesel: Diesel trucks tend to come at a more premium price, and the fuel is more expensive as well.
Electric: Electric vehicles are incredibly expensive since the technology is so new. With tax breaks and no fuel, these are a great investment though.
Winner: We are going to give this one to gasoline.
