What Fits a Cateye Chevy? (Updated For 2026)

Quick Answer
A cateye Silverado 1500 runs a 6x139.7mm (6x5.5") bolt pattern with a 78.1mm hub bore. Factory offsets sit around +22 to +31mm, so almost any aftermarket wheel moves the tire outward. Stock height takes a 275/55R20 comfortably and people run far more than that. A leveling kit gets you to 33x12.50, and six inches of lift gets you to 35x12.50. Before you order anything, confirm whether you have a 1500 or an 8-lug HD, and whether your front end is torsion bars or coil springs.
The cateye is one of the most built trucks in our gallery, and also one of the easiest to order the wrong parts for. Three different things wear a Silverado badge in these years, the front suspension is not the same truck to truck, and a 2007 could be either of two completely different vehicles. Sort that out first and the fitment part is straightforward.
First, Figure Out Which Cateye You Have
This section exists because three of the most expensive fitment mistakes on this platform happen before anybody talks about offset.
Count Your Lugs
A Silverado 1500 is six lug, 6x139.7. A 2500HD or 3500 is eight lug, 8x165.1. Those do not interchange in either direction, which is obvious enough. The trap is the 1500HD. It wears a 1500 badge and it is an eight lug truck. If you own one and you shop by "cateye 1500," every wheel you look at will be wrong.
Look At Your Front Suspension
A 4x4 cateye 1500 has an independent front end with torsion bars. A 2WD cateye 1500 has an independent front end with coil springs. Same truck, same body, completely different leveling and lift parts. Ordering a "1999-2006 Silverado leveling kit" without specifying drivetrain is how people end up with a box of parts that does not fit.
There is an exception that catches people. Some 2004 to 2006 two-wheel-drive trucks left the factory with torsion bars instead of coils. Suspension manufacturers know it, which is why a 3-inch 2WD kit will carry a note saying it does not fit 2004 to 2006 models with torsion bar front suspension. Get under yours and look before you order.
If It Is A 2007, Find Out Which 2007
GM sold two different trucks as 2007 Silverados. The 2007 Classic is the cateye, the old GMT800 body. A 2007 without "Classic" is the redesigned GMT900. Both wear a 2007 VIN and both are 6x139.7 with a 78.1mm bore, so wheels physically swap between them. They do not sit the same though, because factory offsets differ by about 9mm between the two, and the newer truck offered factory sizes the older one never did. Check the badge and the body, not the model year.

Two notes on what is deliberately missing. We are not printing a hub bore for the HD trucks because three sources give three different numbers and none is a GM document, so measure yours or ask us. And we are not printing a lug torque figure for the same reason. Use your manual.

On trimming: the target on a cateye is the lower valance and the bottom edge of the bumper, not the fender lip, and it applies specifically to painted-bumper trims. Chrome bumper trucks generally get away without it. That is a friendlier trimming story than most trucks, and it is worth knowing before you talk yourself out of a size.
Stock Suspension
More Room Than You Think
A stock cateye takes a lot more wheel than most guides admit, as long as you keep the tire short. Height is what forces a lift on this truck. Width and offset you can get away with, because the low profile tire keeps the outer diameter down.
- 18x9 +0 265/65R18. Clean, conservative, no drama.
- 18x10 -19 285/60R18 for a wider stance on a stock truck.
- 20x9 +18 to +22 275/55R20, essentially the factory SS look.
- 20x12 -51 305/50R20. Yes, at stock height. The 50 series sidewall is what makes it work.
Leveling Kit Or Torsion Crank
1 To 3 Inches, And The Thing Nobody Warns You About
On a torsion bar 4x4 you can level it for free by cranking the factory adjuster bolts, or buy re-indexed keys that reclock the bar to sit higher. Keys top out around 2.5 inches with the key still in its stock position in the crossmember.
- 17x9 +20 305/70R17 for an all-terrain look on 17s.
- 20x10 -12 to -18 305/55R20 or 33x12.50R20. The volume fitment.
- 20x10 -24 to -25 33x12.50R20. Sits about an inch outside the fender.
- 20x11.5 -40 285/55R20 for width without going to a 12.
- 20x12 -44 33x12.50R20. Common, but usually paired with a body lift as well.
Crank the bars without addressing your shocks and you will destroy them. The manufacturer of these kits says it plainly: cranking factory keys leaves essentially zero down travel past the new ride height, so the shocks bottom out at droop. Buy shock extensions or longer shocks at the same time. This is not a ride quality preference, it is a part failure.
Past two inches you also start hearing about upper control arms. Adjustable and tubular arms for this truck are sold specifically for the 2 to 4 inch band, which tells you where the factory geometry runs out.
3.5 To 4.75 Inch Lift
Where 22s Start Making Sense
Four inches is the height where a 33 on a big wheel stops being a compromise. A well built 4-inch kit for this truck keeps the factory torsion bar location, which means the install is meaningfully simpler than a six.
- 22x10 -18 to -25 33x12.50R22, published by the kit manufacturer. Some configs want minor trimming.
- 22x12 -43 33x12.50. Documented build, aggressive and clean.
- 20x10 -24 33x12.50R20 for the same idea on a 20.
- 20x12 -44 33x12.50R20 when you want the stance to lead.
5 To 6.5 Inch Lift
35s Are The Ceiling
Six inches gets you a 35, and this is the tier where the gallery gets loud. Understand what the install actually involves though. These kits require frame bracket modification and differential mount modification, and at least one calls for minor welding. That is fabrication, not bolt-on.
- 20x9 -12 35x12.50R20, the manufacturer's clean recommendation.
- 20x12 -44 to -45 35x12.50R20. The dominant look on lifted cateyes.
- 20x12 -44 35x13.50R20 for maximum width.
- 22x10 -25 35x12.50R22, listed as trimming required.
- 24x14 -76 35x13.50R24 for a show build.
One constraint at this height that surprises people. Six inch kits use taller knuckles, and if your truck came on factory 17s, the replacement wheels have to be 17 inches or larger. You cannot go back to a 16 after the fact.
Lowered Cateyes Are A Whole Different Setup
Half the cateye community goes the other direction, and the fitment math inverts completely. A lifted cateye runs wide wheels at aggressive negative offset. A dropped one runs narrow wheels at strongly positive offset, because you are tucking the wheel up under the fender rather than pushing it out past it.

Notice the pattern. Nine to nine and a half inches wide, offsets from +13 to +28, and sidewalls from 30 to 50 series. If you are dropping a cateye, ignore every offset recommendation in the lifted sections above.
One ordering note. Some drop kits are gated by wheel diameter, meaning a 4 and 6 kit may require 17-inch or larger wheels. Check that before you buy either the kit or the wheels.
Cateye Fitment Gotchas
- The 1500HD is eight lug Badged 1500, 8x165.1 pattern. Count your lugs, do not trust the badge.
- 2WD and 4WD are different trucks Coil springs versus torsion bars. Different kits entirely.
- Some 04 to 06 2WDs have torsion bars A 2WD kit may specifically exclude them.
- Quadrasteer changes everything The rear track is about five inches wider than a standard truck, so normal rear fitment math does not apply. It is also excluded from at least one six inch kit.
- The SS is all-wheel drive A six inch kit on one needs front driveline modification.
- Six inch kits set a wheel diameter floor Factory 17s mean 17 inch or larger replacements, permanently.
- Shock extensions with any crank Covered above, and it is the most common expensive mistake on this platform.

It depends on drivetrain. A 4x4 Silverado 1500 has torsion bars up front, and a 2WD has coil springs. The 2500HD uses torsion bars as well. There is an exception worth checking: some 2004 to 2006 two-wheel-drive trucks came from the factory with torsion bars, and suspension kits for 2WD trucks often specifically exclude them.
