What is a bolt pattern and why does it matter?

Bolt pattern is the count and spacing of the lugs that hold your wheel to the hub, written as something like 6×135 or 8×6.5. The first number is how many lugs; the second is the diameter of the circle they sit on, which can be measured in inches or millimeters. If the pattern on the wheel doesn’t match the pattern on your truck, the wheel won’t attach correctly. Common truck patterns include 5×5, 6×135, 6×5.5, 8×6.5, and 8×180, and they’re not interchangeable. What does wheel offset mean?
