Understanding Wheel Offset & Backspacing

Offset is the distance between a wheel’s mounting surface and its centerline, measured in millimeters. A negative offset pushes the wheel outward from the hub, creating a wider, more aggressive stance. A positive offset tucks the wheel closer to the suspension. Understanding offset is critical for avoiding tire rubbing, fender contact, and suspension interference.

Backspacing measures the distance from a wheel’s back edge to its mounting surface. Combined with offset and wheel width, these measurements determine exactly how your wheel and tire package will sit in your wheel well. Our fitment gallery shows you proven combinations for your exact truck, so you never have to guess.

Choosing Tires for Your Build

The right tires depend on how you use your truck. Here’s how the three main tire categories stack up for daily driving, off-road capability, and ride comfort.

All-Terrain

Best All-Around

On-Road Comfort
Off-Road Grip
Tread Life
Road Noise

Balanced mix of on-road comfort and off-road capability. Great for daily drivers who hit trails on weekends.

Mud-Terrain

Maximum Traction

On-Road Comfort
Off-Road Grip
Tread Life
Road Noise

Aggressive tread delivers maximum traction in mud, dirt, and rock. Expect more road noise and slightly faster wear on pavement.

Highway

Smooth & Quiet

On-Road Comfort
Off-Road Grip
Tread Life
Road Noise

Smoothest ride and longest tread life. Perfect for trucks that stay primarily on pavement and highways.

Tire size matters just as much as type. Upsizing from your factory tire diameter affects speedometer accuracy, gear ratio, and ride quality. A 2-3″ lift kit opens the door to 33″ or 35″ tires, while 6″ lifts can accommodate 37″ or larger. Every tire size we recommend has been verified against real builds in our gallery to ensure proper clearance and fitment.
