Baja truck drivers started posting their squatted trucks everywhere and people loved it. This is where the copycatting began, taking off in around 2017. Baja drivers squat their trucks so that when they go over huge hilly jumps in the desert, the rear hits the ground first rather than the front because the rear end was lower than the front bumper. This avoids crashes. People started mimicking this for style rather than for usability. Instagram took this trend and ran with it, making it more and more popular over time. So many people HATE the look of the Carolina Squat and have a lot to say about it. Many think it is ugly, or unsafe because you can’t see very well out of your front windshield, you lose towing capabilities, and your headlights won’t be pointed where they need to be. But to each their own, do what you want with your build. SEE MORE PHOTOS How Do You Achieve the Carolina Squat? Whether you like the Carolina Squat or not, it is a conundrum how people achieve it. There are a few ways to achieve the Carolina Squat depending on how intense you want it to look. If you want the most aggressive squatted look then you can purchase a lift kit for the front and a lowering kit for the rear. Otherwise, you can just get a lift kit for the front. Sizing is up to you with mild being about 3” all the way up to the aggressive 10” lift in the front. Finally, using a regular lift kit isn’t necessarily recommended, though you can, it is better to grab a long travel kit for this modification.
